Windshield Replacement Aftercare

Short answer: Wait about one hour before driving, leave the tape on until the next morning, skip car washes for 48 hours, and avoid rough roads and potholes while the adhesive cures. If your technician gives you different instructions for your vehicle, follow theirs.
Your new windshield is bonded to your vehicle’s frame with urethane adhesive. It sets quickly enough for you to drive within about an hour, but it keeps curing after that. During the first couple of days, the goal is simple: don’t put extra stress on that fresh bond. If you’re still planning your replacement, here’s how our windshield replacement in Tampa works.
Give the adhesive about one hour before you drive. Whether we replaced your windshield at our South Tampa shop or at your home or workplace, your technician will let you know when your vehicle is ready.
You may see strips of tape along the edges of the new windshield. The tape helps keep the glass and moldings in place while the adhesive sets. Leave it on overnight and remove it the next morning.
Wait 48 hours before washing your car. That includes hand washing and automatic car washes. High-pressure water and brushes are best kept away from a fresh seal.
Where you can, avoid potholes, rough roads and hard bumps while the adhesive cures. Hard jolts put stress on the new bond.
Many newer vehicles have a camera mounted on the windshield for lane-keeping, automatic braking and other driver-assistance features. If yours does, the camera needs ADAS calibration after the windshield is replaced. Your technician will tell you if your vehicle needs it. About ADAS calibration →
